1998, 105 minutes, Rated MA

Joe is an ordinary sort of a guy who lives in a tough neighbourhood. He is a reformed alcoholic trying to maintain hope in grim impoverished Glasgow. He spends his nights attending AA meetings and his days taking odd jobs on the side while trying to evade the spies at the local dole offices.

His family is the amateur soccer team he coaches. They're the worst team in Glasgow, but Joe is doing his best to motivate this raucous crew of unemployed misfits trying to steer them clear of the kind of mess that short-circuited his own life. Joe's got a soft spot for a talented player Liam, and keeps his eye on him and his wife Sabine who are troubled by debt and drug dependency.

Through a chance encounter Joe meets Sarah a middle-class community health care worker and a romance begins. It's an unlikely pairing: Joe and Sarah live in different worlds in the same city and baggage from previous relationships has left both of them wary of falling in love again.
