2000, 93 minutes, Rated M

Adrift in hostile waters, during the last vicious battles of the Triad societies after their expulsion from mainland China, Dogwatch is a classic tale of a man's darkest hour. The Captain, William (Steve Vidler) is a ruined man. He has a shady past, a drinking problem, and a dirty job to do - at the lowest ebb of his career, William has agreed to sink the Arabella for an insurance scam.

His men - a riffraff bunch picked up in an obscure Asian port - are old hands: the youthful Sparrow, who dreams of becoming a movie star; Heckle, a seasoned sailor with a soft spot for his young mate Sparrow; Klipper, a man who loves the engine and the monkey's wrench but doesn't have much time for anything else; ship's cook, the enigmatic Nigel; and Hong, a superstitious man who foresees a grisly end for the Arabella and her crew. A last minute guest, the enigmatic and seedy piano player Palmer (Russell Kiefel), arrives fresh from his stint in a sordid nightclub - no one knows why or how he came aboard.
