One of Peter Greenaways finest films, Drowning By Numbers boasts the directors impressive imagination that makes his work such compulsive viewing. The screen drips with teasing, decadent imagery that perfectly mirrors a literary riddle of murder, morality and sexual solidarity. Three woman of the same name drown their husbands, safe in the knowledge their crimes will go unpunished as they are in collusion with the local coroner. But, the coroner's deal of silence for sexual favours lands him in deep water when witnesses of the murders start to surface. But it is not only the characters who get to play games. Audiences can try to "spot the numbers" as Greenaway counts from 1 to 100 throughout the film.
