Set on a Manchester council estate where, in the absense of traditional jobs any means of earning money is considered fair game, we are introduced to Bob Williams. Bob is a survivor, a man stripped of everything except his ingenuity. He supplements his dole by becoming embroiled in whatever scam is on offer, from rustling sheep to rotting drains. Life deals Bob its latest blow when his van, full of rustled sheep, is stolen. With his daughter's first communion approaching, he has to use all his guile to raise the necessary funds. Raning Stones is a film about the will to survive that transcends location and time. It is also very funny, in a desperate sort of way.
