1984, 180 minutes, Rated PG
Frank Herbet's epic novel "Dune" was first brought to the screen by Director David Lynch in lavish, over-the-top style in 1984. With dazzling special effects, opulent sets and unforgettable images, its cult status has rendered it a classic of the genre.
Now prepare to see it like you've never seen it before - with almost an hour of never-before-seen footage.
This special version of "Dune" is the Alan Smithee cut - a three hour reassembling of the film prepared for airing on television. David Lynch had his directorial credit removed from this version, primarily due to his objection to the specially created prlogue which attempts to spell out the convoluted twists and turns of what many describe as being an unfilmable plot. Despire Lynch's objections, this version is actually clearer than the original cinema edit, which was notoriously trimmed almost to the point of incomprehension by Hollywood executives determined to make it more "commerical" duration.
