Surrounded by misfits and eccentrics, Steven (Adrien Brody) struggles to find his place in the world. His family and friends love him, but don't really understand him or his passion for becoming a ventriloquist.
The only normal person in his life is Lorena (Vera Farmiga), his employment counsellor who gets him his first gig as a ventriloquist. In an effort to express his feelings, he makes a disastrous (but hilarious) visit to her home resulting in a restraining order.
It takes a stranger's wedding day, a trail of mishaps and one act of heroics to help him realise his worth, thus gaining the resepct of his friends and family, and the recognition and love of Lorena.
Also starring in this comedy with a big heart is Milla Jovovicj, Illena Douglas and Jared Harris.
