Paul Keller, the minister of the town of Hollow Lake, has a small problem and the love affair with his son's teacher and attempted insurance fraud is only half of it. Paul has an accident while trying to fake his own death that leaves him with amnesia. Vulnerable and incoherant he finds his way to an isolated motel and becomes the friend, lover and prisoner of Charlene Hunt, the motel manager. She knows his real identity and as the investigation into his apparent death heats up, each player tries to manipulate the others; the stakes rising until it becomes a game of life and death.
