Abruptly, she i sthrust from the heart of a close-knit, loving household and into the harsh glare of unwanted publicity and death threats. In this true story, the Finkbine family is catapulted into the centre of a debate on a woman's right to choose an abortion.
In 1962, Sherrie and Bob (Aidan Quinn - Music Of The Heart, Practical Magic) Finkbine are having the time of their lives. Bob, a popular high-school teacher, and Sherri, host of a local Arizona children's TV show, are expecting their fifth child. But news concerning birth defects changes everything for their family. Children are being born without limbs because their mothers have taken Thalidomide, a dangerous drug, during pregnancy. And Sherri, too, like so many other women, has taken the drug.
Sherrie and her husband come to the painful conclusion that her pregnancy should be terminated. Hoping to warn others about the drug, she tells her story to a newspaper reporter with the promise of remaining anonymous. Wher her name is disclosed to the world during legal proceedings, the legality of her abortion is questioned. Sherri and her family are propelled into the middle of an agonising moral and legal dilemma.
