1984, 97 minutes, Rated PG
Sir Randolph Nettleby (James Mason, LOLITA, THE SEVENTH VEIL), a charming elderly aristocrat, invites a small party of friends and acquaintances to his estate for a shooting weekend. Amidst a mixture of social classes from both England and abroad the affairs of the group slowly unfold amongst the rural surroundings. As time progresses the highly intricate code of ethics that governs these people and their conduct under a mask of deceny and decorum slowly begins to crack. In a tragic finale, Lord Gilbert's ultimate violation of the gentlemen's code exposes internal rot as the real world presses in.
Featuring John Geigud (THE POWER OF ONE, SHINE, BRIDESHEAD REVISITED) as Cornelius Cardew an Animal Rights activist and the last performance by the great James Mason (LOLITTA, THE SEVENTH VEIL), this film is set in Autumn 1913, on the eve of the Grreat War and at a time when the balance of the English society was about to change irrevocably.
