In the fall of 1957, Benny (Minnie Driver) and Eve (Geraldiine O'Rawe) eagerly escape the dull confines of Knockglen, their hometown, to attend college in Dublin. There they meet up with Nan (Saffron Burrows), a friend from grade school who has learned her way around the university from her years as a precocious and social high school student. She introduces Benny to Jack Foley (Chris O'Donnell), the handsome and charming star of the rugby team, and the romantic adventure begins.
