When Brian Kessler (David Duchovny), a journalist researching serial killers and photographer girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Michelle Forbes), decide to cross America visiting scenes of infamous murders ith the idea of compiling a book, they take on two companions to help foot the bills. Unfortunately one is Early Grayce (Brad Pitt), and his girlfriend, the slow-witted, child like Adele Corners (Juliette Lewis).

"White Trash" is how Carrie sums them up, but as she grows to like and feel pity for Adele, her suspicions of Early become full-blown terror as he reveals more and more of his dark side. Though their cross country voyage begins with Brian behind the wheel, Early Grayce ultimately takes them all on a ride they'll never forget.
