Matthew and Michael are brothers caught in a love triangle. Matthew works as a lifeguard at a swimming pool. He is a dreamer with a vivid intense imagination who is haunted by images of water and the ghost of his dead father. Michael is an ambitious advertising executive with a sharp tongue and ideas for Matthew's future. Michael's girlfriend, Natalie, works in the local book shop and teaches disadvantaged children in the evening.

Fueled by mutual attraction Matthew and Natalie draw closer together. Sensing Matthew's and Natalie's attraction to each other, Michael cruelly uses an emergency in the swimming pool to goad Matthew. The result is something that will change their lives forever.
