Phillip Warren, Emma's handsome and intelligent college professor son, has been the man of the house since his father died, and he and Helen are instantly attracted to each other.

In addition, Phillip's older brother Steven, a globe-trotting playboy who only comes home when he needs to take another loan from his trust fund, returns with his latest gold-digging girlfriend Danielle, in tow soon after Helen's arrival.

On a trip to the mainland during her day off, Helen strays into a dangerious section of town. Scared and confused, and hearing footsteps behind her Helen runs to escape the would-be predator right into the arms of Steven, who coincedentally is in town that night too. That same evening, a young woman is found murdered nearby.

Investigating the crime, a witness informs Detective Bell that Helen was seen in town. When Detective Bell is urged by headquarters to return to the mainland, he secures Emma's promise that Steven will be available for further questioining, but as Bell prepares to leave, the ferocious storm unleashes its fury. Noboy is leaving the island.
