Kate is alone once again and now finds herseld left with a debt-ridden ranch during one of the worst droughts in Australian history.
In addition, she must contend with her land-grabbing neighbour, Ed Stenning (Jason Robards), who has been feuding with the Hannon family for years! Stenning is abetted in his schemes by his ambitious daughter Meg (Judy Morris) who has been more like a son to him than his real son, Nick (Jack Thompson) who hates his father, blaming him for their mothers death years earlier.
The arrival of Kate transforms Nick - who had become a loner and a renegade. What unfolds is an epic dramatic story of love, courage and forgiveness set amid the harsh splendour of Australia's Great Outback.
