It is 1935 and the world is on the brink of war. As international rivalries are played out in the boxing ring, Harlem-born prize-fighter Joe Louis and German champ Max Schmeling should have been enemies. But despite their differences and in spite of government manipulation, Joe and Max continued their rivalry for the heaveyweight championship in the ring... and forged a lasting friendship that would take them far beyond it.
