War-torn Europe leaves Catherine Morgan (Theresa Russell), widowed and alone, her life and her land up for grabs. With two daughters and debts, she is easy prey for teh cold-blooded sheriff, Huw (Richard Lynch). His offer is marriage, his goal is land and power. Driven by despair and a glimmer of hope, Catherine turns to Huw's half brother, Rhys (Patrick Bergin), a drunken womaniser whose skills as a drover may prove her salvation.
Her proposition is simple. If Rhys will take her cattle South so she can sell them, she will pay him well. His response is cruel; he will do it but the price is Catherin.
Torn between the jealous rivalry of two brothers, Catherine must shoose. Huw's whore for life, or Rhys once.
Set against the panoramic splendour of wild Wales, Catherine and Rhys battle the elements, dogged by Huw and his cut throats. If only they can make it South alive.
