A beautiful chapel with no staircase. A mysterious stranger. A miracle.
The true story surrounding the very first circular staircase.
Barbara Hershey (Beaches) is Mother Madalyn, one of the Sisters or Loretto in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Their gift to God is a nearly-completed beautiful chapel but an oversight by both the architect and contractor means there is no access to the choir loft, and the dimensions of the small chapel make it impossible to add a conventional stairway.
Out of the desert arrives a mysterious stranger who calls himself Joad. Using only simple tools and wood, he solves the sister's dilemma by building a never-before-seen, circular staircase. And then disappears as quickly as he came, leaving behind a new invention and sense of faith in all he has met.
A very special film about a modern day miracle. Touching and haunting.
