Meet Jackie York (Wendy Crewson). She's 39, beautiful, single, and a successful novelists... for the public. Privately, she's sharp tongued and bitter, with an insatiable sexual appetite for the literary admirers that show up at her door. She even rates them in her database.
Having been publicly humiliated by a young, handsome, but talentless wanna-be movie director, Danny Blair, who romanced and manipulated her out of the rights to her best novel, Jackie decides to wreak revenge on Danny in her next novel: she'll tell the world what he did.
To save face, she bluffs a love affair with her good friend, famous writer Lionel Heathcote (Peter Coyote), who knows her inside out, yet doesn't know that she's desperately battling writer's block. She's so angry, she just can't get anything to work on the page.
With her life caught in a spiral of loneliness, lies, and one night stands, Jackie aranges to meet Patrick McKeating (Joe Cobden) a man whose novel she has been reading and admiring via email. Lanky, quirky, brilliant and only 20 years old, Patrick is a surprise to Jackie in every way.
There's 19 years between them and the whole world is watching. Jackie's pristine public image and mistrust of another young man are just the starting point for the adventurous love affair that leads to the discovery of what really matters... in love and in life.
