Charley McCabe (Rod Steiger), after suffering a mild stroke faces being placed into a retirement home by his family. Driven by the haunting words of his deceased wife and the knowledge that the end is close.

Charley decides to 'run away from home' and find his long estranged son, Thomas (Michael Pare).

Charley finds himself accompanied by the one who loves him most - his grandaughter Biddy and her little brother, Jeremy.

Charley's long silenced family secret, resurfaces in a cascade of emotion, when he meets his son and through his important journey, faces his past, learns to let go... and peacefully finds his way home.
