Five years later, he is a small-town mechanic, trying his best to raise his seven year old daughter Abby (Hallie Kate Eisenberg). Ed reaches out to Abby the only way he knows how - through baseball - and encourages her to join an all-boy little league team. Abby, however prefer ballet lessons and spending time with other little girls, much to Ed's disappoinment. As they slowly begin to grow apart, Ed realises that he cannot force his own interests upon his daughter.
In order to let go of the past, he must pursue his own dreams and accept Abby as she is. He decides to return to the game he loves and tries his hand at playing professional baseball. Meanwhile, he and Abby discover that all they need is right in front of them - each other.
