Rosa McCauley realises at an early age that as a black person she is treated differently, but she refuses to believe she is inferior to anyone.
As a young woman, Rosa (Angela Bassett) meets and marries Raymond Parks (Peter Francis James). Parks attempts to protect Rosa from the bigotry and oppression of the times. Despite his best efforts Rosa is forced to cope with many degrading and humiliating situations. Finally, the situation becomes too much for the strong willed Rosa. When she is asked to vacate her seat on a bus for a white person, she refuses.
This one event causes an uproar in her town and brings Rosa and her family to the attention of the Klu Klux Klan's ring of hatred.
Is it possible that one woman's efforts could alter centuries of prejudice and ignorance toward her people?
