Hoping to gain control of Fantasia, Xayide the Dark Princess despatches her agents to steal "The Neverending Story" book from Bastian.
Alerted to the danger, the Childlike Empress sends Atreyu to the wizard known as "The Curiosity" to prepare him for a mission to the real world. But Atreyu arrives too late. "The Neverending Story" is already in the hands of the Dark Princess, and she dares to disobey the cardinal rule against reading the book in Fantasia, and soon she suffers the fate described in the very pages she is reading.
When Atreyu defeats Gmork, the shape shifter, and the book is returned to Bastian, he inadvertantly turns back the hands of time and Xayide is resurrected. She hunts down Atreyu and Fly Girl, but at the last minute, the mystical Luckdragon appears and saves the day.
