As 12 year old Bastian comes to terms with the recent death of his mother and his father's new love interest, he turns to "The Neverending Story" and is amazed to discover that he is not merely reading a book, but has become a character in the story.

In Fantasia, the Childlike Empress is at death's door, and can offer no resistance to Xayide, the Dark Princess and her evil forces. The Empress's only chance of survival rests in the hands of Bastian's alter ego, Atreyu. Aided by his sidekick Fly Girl, and two fast-talking hucksters, Rip Rowdy and and Weasel-faced Wexlenian, Atreyu finally unlocks the mystery of the Southern Oracle and makes contact with Bastian Bux, the only one with the power to save the Empress.
