Waking from a terrible nightmare, Kimberley Jansen bolts upright from her hospital bed, dazed and confused. Her attractive, charming, small town doctor assures her that the dreams are simply a result of the sedative administered to her the night before.

But the "dreams" persist - crashing in on her conscience, tearing at her nerves. The dreamsd take shape in her mind, becoming frightening memories that she can't push aside. Evidence of a sexual encounter is found in her underwear, but no one believes her when she points her finger at the town's well-respected doctor, accusing him of rape.

Her improverished, promiscuous background doesn't win her allegations any credit or support, and when the doctor passes not one, but two DNA tests, the town points the finget back at her, accusing her of setting to tarnish the doctor's reputation. Extortion or a cover-up are teh theories that race around the twon, becoming fodder for town gossipers.

Unable to stand the pressure of the rumours, and the lack of support for her story, Kimberley unravels and is sent to an institution where she is tormented by a night in which she's can't separate reality from hallucination.

But Kimberley's will won't be broken, and in the face of great loss, she perseveres. She beromce her own sleuth in an attempt to reconcile fact from fiction from memories that she is certain where not just a dream. After many dead ends, a lip balm stolen from the doctor's car, possibly the key source of a desperately needed DNA sample, reward her.

In a culmination too shocking to believe, details of twisted deceit come to light, revealing things about the town's trusted doctor that will change its community forever. There is no story that proves more that truth is indeed stranger than fiction.
