Ann (Sarah Polley) is 23, has two daughters, a husband, Don (Scott Speedman) and lives in a trailer at the back of her mothers house in Vancouver. Her grey existence is transformed however whe she discovers she has an untreatable condition. Keepinh this a secret, she makes a list 'Things To Do Before Dying' which she completes little by little.

Unexpectedly, Ann discovers an appetite for life that drives her to live with a sensual and furious intensityshe had not known before. She prepares her daughter's lives without her, meets a man (Mark Ruffalo) whom she seduces, and paradoxically heals.. and faces each next day with a courage she never knew she had.
