After years of being scoffed at by friends and colleagues, Jerry McNeal (Richard Thomas) has secured documented proof that reindeer can fly. In fact, not only does he have photograph's and videotape of reindeer flying, he has also found the magical North Pole village where they live with St Nick (Beau Bridges) and the elves.

Now, everyone will have to believe him - that is, if he ever makes it back home. The residents fear that if Jerry proves their existence, there will be such a barrage of media attention that they will cease to exist. They feel they must keep Jerry with them in order to save Christmas, even though Jerry's wife and young daughter are waiting for his safe return.
