For nine months after his liberation, while still in a state of shock, Levi traced his way home, through Poland, the Ukraine and finally to Italy. What confronted him was a landscape of desolation and destruction.
But out of the ashes of the past, Levi sensed a new age of discovery and rebirth awaited.
