A touching story of the deep South, from the award-winning novel by William Armstrong.
Nathan Lee Morgan (Academy Award nominee Paul Winfield) and his family are Louisiana sharecroppers, struggling to keep their home together during the Great Depression. When Nathan is imprisoned for a petty crime, his wife Rebecca (Academy Award nominee Cicely Tyson) is left alone to fight the poverty and racism that threatens herself and her children. Rebecca eventually sends her eldest son David (Kevin Hooks) on a journey to visit Nathan in jail. While traveling to see his father, this poor boy learns to be a man ? and though his young eyes, we are shown the black soul of American history.
