1983, 144 minutes, Rated PG
Back in the seventies, Australians got their laughs from mannered British comedies and saccharine sweet American sitcoms. Then Paul Hogan burst onto our television screens.
Suddenly, the jokes were about us. And we loved it...even if Hogan's take on our national character was not always flattering.
It was a new, truly Australian brand of humour.
Then in 1983, Hoges invited the Poms to share the joke. At first they didn't quite know what to make of the laid back bloke with the quick wit and the slow Aussie drawl. But once they got over the shock, they laughed as loud as we did.
