The Dismissal (Mini-Series) (2 discs)Icon_movClass_PG

1983, 270 minutes, Rated PG

For five years the law prohibited it, for months defamation proceedings threatened it - but in 1983 Australia's most successful feature film company created the sensational TV miniseries THE DISMISSAL.

The sensational dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam's Labor Government by the Queen's representative in Australia, the Governor General, Sir John Kerr on November 11, 1975 had threatened to tear the nation apart.

All the highly charged events that led to the unthinkable, the dismissal of a democratically elected government is faithfully retold in THE DISMISSAL. The controversial relationship between Treasurer Dr. Jim Cairns and his personal assistant - the so-called Morosi Affair; the rise of Malcolm Fraser to the leadership of the Liberal Party; the financial intrigue of the Khemlani Affair where the Government attempted to borrow $4 million to buy back Australia's huge mineral and energy wealth; and the final blow with the blocking of the supply budget by the opposition in the Senate.

Told with a cast of great Australian actors including Max Phipps, John Stanton, John Meillon, Ruth Cracknell, John Hargreaves, Ed Devereaux, Bill Hunter, Peter Sumner, Robyn Nevin and Nancye Hayes, and directed by five of the nation's finest talents George Miller, Phillip Noyce, George Ogilvie, John Power and Carl Schultz THE DISMISSAL is truly one of the GREAT AUSTRALIAN STORIES.
