1995, 93 minutes, Rated M

James Mangold's (Cop Land, Kate Leopold, Identity) delicate debut feature tells the tale of Victor, an introverted, overweight Pizza Chef who works at "PETE & DOLLY's", an out of the way, roadside tavern owned by his domineenng Mother, Dolly (two time Oscar winner Shelley Winters) who keeps a firm grip on her reclusive son. Victor's world is changed forever by the entrance of Callie (Liv Tyler), a beautiful and beguiling college drop-out who comes to work in the restaurant and in doing so becomes Victor's obsession. Reticent to the point of invisibility, Victor can barely manage to communicate with her, but they casually interact, which stimulates Victor's obsession further, thus causing him to question his stagnant and empty life, making him believe there could be more to the world outside than he ever thought possible.

An intricately poised love story, HEAVY features sublime performances from Pruitt Taylor Vince as the reclusive Victor, Liv Tyler as his luminous muse, Shelley Winters thunders as Dolly and Deborah Harry gives a multi layered performance as Delores, the hard-boiled waitress who is sexually dangerous and too available. With a haunting score by Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth and a resonate screenplay from director James Mangold, HEAVY is an impassioned look at the people and places that exist just off the map.
