The ageing Carrie Watts (Academy Award winner, Geraldine Page) is living her twilight years trapped in a cramped city apartment with her controlling daughter-in-law while dreaming of her past happiness in the small Texas town of Bountiful where she was raised.
Despite her infirmity and attempts by her family to stop her from making the long trip back to Bountiful, the indomitable Mrs Watts makes several escape attempts before cashing in her social security cheque and boarding a bus to journey back to the home town she loves.
A critically acclaimed, academy-award winning period drama with writing by Oscar-winning Horton Foote (To Kill A Mockingbird, Tender Mercies), this is the touching story of Mrs Watts successful escape from the city and her last trip to see her childhood home.
