Todd Boomer's (Jason London) carefully laid plans for his future are about to be crushed by his dictatorial calculus teacher, Mr. Mueller (Christopher McDonald).
Things have been going great for Todd. He draws the cartoon strip for the school newspaper, he's got great pals, including his eccentric genius best friend Faber (Zak Orth) and his beautiful, talented girlfriend Kirsten (Alexandra Lee). And he just got high scores that should put him within shooting range of his father's dream: sending his son to Harvard.
But Mr. Mueller is too much of a sadist to give Todd the college recommendation he needs, unless Todd can somehow pull off a math miracle.
Enter the mathematically gifted Vicki (Tia Carrere). At first sight, Todd thinks she is the most beautiful woman on earth. But she's all academic.
A former math major, Vicki agrees to whip Todd into math shape. Todd can't think of a better way to get nito Harvard. Skeptically Todd's Dad puts Vicki through her paces. FAber suggests trouble is ahead. Kirsten gets jealous. But Vicki really knows her stuff and soon Todd is jamming in Mr. Mueller course.
As they share more time together, Todd and Vicki begin to share their love of art and their concerns about being controlled by other people's ideas of who they should be - Todd, by the Harvard-obssesed father; Vicki, by her unloving husband who won't let her pursue her art career.
Todd and Vicki are caught up in a complex romantic equation that could end Todd's Harvard plans and Vicki's marriage - or the beginning of a whole new life for both of them.
