In a small, steamy southern town of Delano, a series of unsolved murders threatens to upset the delicate balance between the powerful and the powerless in the epic saga of Chiefs.
Charlton Heston stars as Hugh Holmes, local politician and kingmaker, whose net of power looms over Delano, a force for good - and potential evil. Nothing happens in Delano without his knowledge. As the years pass and successive police chiefs hold office, it seems that the mysterious unsolved crimes have been swept under the carpet.
But in 1962, the day of reckoning draws near as Billy Dee Williams, portraying Tyler Waifs, Delano's first black police chief, becomes intrigued by the old case and the dark shadow it casts over the town. Unintimidated, despite threats, he preserves to ultimately uncover the scandalous secret behind the forty year old mystery that is Chiefs.
