"Dum-De-Dum-Dum" has to be the most famous four-note introduction in the history of television, and Dragnet was probably the most successful TV police series ever.
Dragnet's hallmark was its appearance of realism, from Joe Friday's documentary-style narration, to the cases drawn from the files of the Los Angeles Police Department.
It's catch phrases, such as "My Name's Friday, I'm A Cop" and "Just the Facts Ma'am" became national bywords.
