The stunning directional debut by Cate Shortland, Somersault is a sensory adventure of image, sound and emotion. It features Decoder Ring's ethereal score and standout performances from an acclaimed ensemble cast.
Rising star Abbie Cornish plays the beautiful, vulnerable Heidi, who starved of true affection, looks to short-lived sexual encounters for the physical and emotional contact she craves. After a confrontation with her mother, she flees Canberra for the snow resort town of Lake Jindabyne. A chance encounter with Joe (Sam Worthington), the son a wealthy local farmer, leads to a developing relationship in all its complexity. Local motel owner Irene (Lynette Curran) offers Heidi a place to stay, and once she finds a job at the local petrol station she befriends her co-worker Biance (Hollie Andrew). Heidi's new life begins to take shape.
Visually haunting, passionate and erotic, Somersault is the story of a young girl's sensory journey, through which she learns the true meaning of love, family and friendship.
