1980, 114 minutes, Rated R

In the Pacific North West, inside the walls of an old gothic-style castle, the U.S. military has established an experimental mental health facility to care for 'disturbed' servicemen returned from the war in Vietnam. With the patients running the asylum and the doctors fighting to maintain order, the military Brass sends in marine psychiatrist Colonel Vincent Kane (Stacy Keach), to take command of the facility. But is Kane an unorthodox genius, or just another lunatic who's taken over the asylum?

Written, produced and directed by William Peter Blatty (The Exorcist) with brilliant central performances from Stacy Keach, Scott Wilson and Jason Miller (The Exorcist's Father Karras), The Ninth Configuration is a multi-layered spellbinder that deserves its place alongside such films as MASH and One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
