In "Devil's Arithmetic", which opens with a special introduction by Dustin Hoffman talking about the relevance of the story we are about to see. Kirtsen Dunst stars as Hannah, a modern Jewish American adolescent girl who only halfheartdely accepts the traditional ways of her family's religious beliefs.
When she is magically transported into WWII Nazi death camp, she is graphically shown the horrors experienced by the Jews at that time without the benefit of historical perspective - thus gaining a stronger experience of what her people have endured and the role of her faith in the scheme of things.
To know the full face of evil you have to live it first hand.
