In this hilarious, lighthearted comedy from acclaimed writer/director Billy Wilder and screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond (The Apartment), a wealthy American discovers romance and the meaning of avanti while in Italy. Based on the play by Samuel Taylor and nominated for five Golden Globes - winning one - Avanti! is a delightful as the Wilder/Diamond/Lemmon classics Some Like It Hot and Irma La Douce. Beautiful location photography and "wonderful performances by all" makes this truly a "honey of a film".
When Wendell Armbruster (Lemmon), an American businessman, goes to Italy to claim his father's body after a fatal car accident, he finds himself caught up in a seemingly endless procession of red tape - and the shock of finding out that his father had a mistress who died in the crash as well! And when the mistress' daughter (Juliet Milss) arrives to take her mother's body back to England, sparks fly. But when the parents' bodies disappear from the morgue, a search begins that brings these two acrimonious foes together in an affair of mystery... and of the heart.
