Kitchen Stories is a comedy based on research conducted in Sweden in the 1950s when women were observed for a study to determine the best housework techniques. The film portrays a team of male Swedish scientists hired to observe bachelors living alone in Norway. The observers live in little trailers outside their subjects' houses. They take notes in high, intimidating chairs placed in their subjects' kitchens. Finally, they must not speak to each other or make contact of any kind. The last rule is impossible to follow and in the case of observer Folke (Tomas Norstorm) and subject (Joachim Calmeyer) it is ignored. The two aging men become friends, passing wintry afternoons sipping coffee, smoking pipes, and telling each other fantastic stories.
