1991, 60 minutes, Rated MA

In 1963, mere months before Beatle mania swept the world, John Lennon and Beatles' manager Brian Epstein took a four-day vacation together in Barcelona. They were there to relax after a gruelling series of concerts, but the trip remained charged with an unspoken sexual tension that threatened to ignite. THE HOURS AND TIMES captures the intimacy and intensity of a friendship that would soon be diminished by the sudden onslaught of fame.

Controversial and provocative, THE HOURS AND TIMES remains a milestone in independent queer cinema and cemented the reputation of writer/director Christopher Munch, with superb performances from David Angus and Ian Hart (END OF THE AFFAIR, FINDING NEVERLAND), whose resemblance to Lennon was so uncanny he went on to play John Lennon yet again in the film BACKBEAT. Shot in stark black & white, THE HOURS AND TIMES is a compelling and controversial look at a man who remains an enigma and an artist who remains an icon.
