In one short year, Jonathan Archer, captain of the starship "Enterprise NX-01" has mad a name for himself and his crew, both with his Starfleet superiors, and - perhaps less favourable - with mankind's alien neighbours.
The Vulcans have long been suspicious of the unpredictability of the human race, and their fears seem increasingly justified, not the least when, having helped the militaristic Andorians expose a Vulcan listening post disguised as a monastery, the captain and his first officer are aided in battle by Andorian troops who succeed where Vulcan officers cannot. The Starfleet vessel is also rumoured to have harboured Vulcans who take part in that most frowned-upon of activites; mind-melding. The future of Archer's Vulcan Science Officer, T'Pol, is under review with the High Command.
Despite the initial rescue and return of a Klingon warrior from the Broken Bow incident, Archer's subsequent actions in rescuing a doomed Klingon ship could be deemed dishonourable: the Klingon view of the captain is unclear.
Since his initial dealings with the agent Silik, the Suliban regard Archer as a threat both to them and to their shady time-travelling alien conspirators from the far future. One of Archer's crew has also revealed himself to be an agent from 900 years hence, whose actions have stireed the Suliban into action.
So when "Enterprise" officer Reed's shuttlepod causes an explosion that kills all the colonists on a planet, the Vulcans seize the chance to recall Archer. Unfortunately, the captain is trapped in the 31st century, and the ship is about to be attacked by Suliban raiders who will kill his crew if Archer is not delivered.
