The 2003 Tour de France was the 100th edition, and it was also the most exciting race in years. Director, Pepe Danquart, had chosen 2003 to document the race through the highs & lows experienced by the Deutsche Telekom team focussing mainly on cyclists Eric Zabel and Rolf Aldag.
The result is one of the finest sports feature films made, featuring peerless production qualities, and revealing a host of human, and historical qualities sometimes overlooked. The Tour is more popular by the year, attracting sports fans, but also a host of other people, many of whom have been quietly fascinated by the race. "Hell On Wheels" demonstrates why.
