David Shayne is a struggling writer who has been given the chance to direct his latest plan on Broadway with one significant string attached: he must cast the untalented mistress of a gangster in one of the pivotal roles. Overwhelmed at getting his first big break. David overlooks the problems looming in the wings - a player who can't act, a leading lady who wants more limelight, a leading man who is a compulsive eater and the gangster's bodyguard who wants to rewrite the play!
It's Woody Allen at his hilarious best when John Cusack, Mary-Louis Parker, Jennifer Tilly, Tracey Ullman and Academy Award Winner Dianne West, team up in this whimsical farce about fame and misfortune set in the roaring 20's.
