Morse and Lewis investigate the apparent suicide of an old acquaintance who happens to be a member of the Clarets XI cricket team. Lewis is sent in to work undercover, but before the case is solved, a second man is murdered and Lewis himself is attacked by someone wielding a cricket bat.
