Set in the untamed Southwest of 1886, "The Deserter" is a tale of fast-paced adventure and bloody revenge. A US cavalry officer finds his wife's mutilated body after a savage Apache raid. He deserts the army to seek revenge against the bloodthristy Indians who committed the crime. An army General (John Huston), hearing of his plight, offers him the chance to lead the group of killers on a mission against the Apaches in exchange for a pardon... but will he survive?
