Ferness, a small Scottish village sits in close proximity to North Sea oil and Texan billionaire and oil magnate Felix Happer (Academy Award winner Burt Lancaster) wants to buy it as the site of his refinery. At whatever the cost.
In the mistaken belief that, because of his name, one of his executives is Scottish he dispatches, Mac McIntyre (Peter Riegert - Traffic) to Ferness to negotiate with the locals. On his arrival Mac is pleasantly surprised to find that the Mayor Gordon Urquhart (Denis Lawson - Star Wars: Return Of The Jedi), and the villagers are happy to sell their property in return for big money!
However as Happer flies in to complete the deal a major complication looms. A done deal? Not quite. Ben Knox (Fulton Mackay - Defence Of The Realm) whose shack sits on the beach that has been in his family for centuries is not interested in selling. Why? "Who'd look after the beach then," his response. The old man refuses to budge and it's going to take a lot of persuading not money to change his mind.
