A colourful love story, about two young people struggling with the traditions and attitudes of life in a small Texas town.

Small town girl Jodie Palmer (Kim Basinger) aspires to a new life beyond Mindland, Texas. Her boyfriend Kyle Richardson (Jan-Michael Vincent) however is content working at his factory job, and drinking with his friends.

She becomes more determined that ever after her friend Caroline (Tanya Tucker), now a successful country and western singer, comes home for a visit. Meanwhile, Kyle and his drunken buddies continue they rowdy nightly pranks.

Jodie's chance to get away comes when she is accepted for stewardess training in Los Angeles. Events reach breaking point, when Kyle quits his factory job to work for his obnoxious brother selling mobile homes.
