Academy Award Nominee Kenneth Branagh (Rabbit-Proof Fence, Harry Potter And The Champer Of Secrets, Wild Wild West) stars as writer Peter McGowan, who is in the midst of writing a new play, as his world becomes one crazy scene after another. His wife Melanie (Golden Globe Nominee Robin Wright Penn - Forrest Gump, White Oleander, A Home At The End Of The World) desperately wants to start a family, his mother-in-law (Golden Globe Winner Lynn Redgreave - Gods & Monsters, Peter Pan, Kinsey) is sinking into senility, a stranger is meandering the neighbourhood claiming to be him, and he's facing a crisis that's a scribe's worst nightmare: writer's block! To top it all off, he' pushed to the edge by the bariking dog next door, and knows that something's gotta give, as this is surely not as good as it gets!
Peter only has time for his writing, until a single mother and her 8-year-old daugther move in next door. His wife immediately invites the girl into the McGowan household. Will this child stir Peter's paternal feelings? Will she also help him get his dialogue right? And what of his doppelganger and the neighbour's god? Can the cynical playwright truly learn that life is indeed a work in progress?
