Farewell to the KingIcon_movClass_PG

1989, 113 minutes, Rated PG

Nick Nolte (Cape Fear) stars as Learoyd, a renegade US soldier who escapes execution by the Japanese during WWII and flees deep into the jungles of Borneo where he becomes an all-powerful tribal king. Like Marlon Brando's Kurtz in Apocalypse Now (John Milius wrote the screenplay for both films), Nolte's Learoyd rules happily over his jungle utopia until discovered by a group of commandos - led by Nigel Havers (Empire Of The Sun). Determined to protect the innocence of his people, Learoyd rejects attempts to enlist his tribesmen in the war against the Japanese; however, when his village is finally attacked, 'The King', in true Rambo style, embarks on a vengeful trail of destruction.
